Goal
The aim of the LMFP AVIATION project is to design a 28 V APU battery with 40% less mass than batteries currently on the market.
The project will make use of LMFP (Lithium Manganese Ferro Phosphate) chemistry, a technology never before used in aircraft, which offers the advantages of reduced weight, space requirements and safety. The project is part of the sector’s drive to manufacture cleaner, lighter aircraft, while also integrating the issue of battery recycling across the board (reduction in the number of cells, absence of rare metals, easier dismantling of the product, support on a composite case, etc.).
As a subcontractor of I2M, CANOE’s tasks will include (1) the study and choice of materials and associated processes, (2) the study (CAD), acceptance, installation and calibration of moulds and tooling, (3) the supply and installation of tooling (eg: heating cabinet, heating cartridges, small fittings), (4) The manufacture of 3 prototypes of composite battery boxes with integrated fixing and monitoring systems, (5) The identification and integration of metal connector solutions within or near the surface of the composite material.
LMFP AVIATION
The aim of the LMFP Aviation Battery project is to develop the lightest possible 28 V lithium-ion battery required for aircraft APU start-up and emergency functions.
It is being supported by France 2030 and brings together a consortium of 3 partners, with CANOE as subcontractor.
