CANOE attended the kick-off meeting of the European project SMARTFAN held on 2018/01/16 in the European Commission premises in Brussels (BE). This research and innovation action (RIA) gathers 18 partners. Amongst others things, SMARTFAN aims to develop smart material integrating novel functionalities like health monitoring sensors or self-repairing abilities, for applications in automotive or consumer goods.

CANOE will especially develop organic composite materials using tailored carbon fibres, but will also design new recyclable thermoplastic polymer formulations.

Several departments of CANOE are directly involved in SMARTFAN giving the variety of research actions around fibres, composites, characterization & NDT and recycling. For this very last task, CANOE will lead the work done within SMARTFAN.

Thanks to this 4 years project, CANOE will reinforce its expertise on smart and recyclable composite materials. SMARTFAN has received the funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, call H2020-NMBP-04-2017, under grant agreement n. 760779.
