CALICO

reCyclage AcryLique pour fIbre de CarbOne

Coordinator :

CANOE

Launch date :

2024

Duration :

30 months

Budget :

208 182 €

Goal

CANOE’s mission is to :

Collect different sources of acrylic fibers (the most relevant in terms of available volumes) from sorting centers and assess their potential for recycling into carbon fibers

Implement and optimize the transformation steps on a laboratory scale:
– Study of the dissolution and filtration of the spinning solution (called dope)
– Study of the implementation of dopes by coagulation spinning (continuous fiber up to 36 filaments over a length of around ten meters).
– Study of the thermal conversion of these recycled fibers into carbon fibers

Secondly, scale up this process until recycled precursor fibers are obtained on a km scale.

CALICO

The CALICO project, funded by Re_fashion as part of the Challenge Innovation 2024 call for projects, aims to develop a process for recycling and recovering recycled acrylic textiles into high added value carbon fiber.
